Since January 1, 2021, Autobahn GmbH des Bundes has been responsible for the planning, construction, operation, maintenance, financing and management of the German freeway network. With around 13,000 kilometers, it manages one of the largest and most efficient infrastructures in Europe. The aim of the company is to operate the freeways throughout Germany more efficiently, safely and sustainably - with uniform standards and modern traffic management.

Autobahn GmbH is organized into a head office in Berlin, ten regional branches, 178 freeway maintenance depots and other locations. As the operator of Verkehrszentrale Deutschland, it also manages intelligent traffic systems throughout Germany, ensuring that traffic flows smoothly and safely.
