As an open research and experimentation platform, MakingCulture^® e.V. is available to interested citizens, companies, and institutions in the spirit of a democratic, active culture of innovation and experimentation.

The association was founded in 2016 as a non-profit organization and offers a diverse range of opportunities for civic cultural engagement.

Reconstruction of the first four-wheeled electric car from 1888

At the end of September 1888, the Coburger Zeitung reported:

"In Mr. Flocken's agricultural machinery workshop, a 'steam chaise' is being worked on..." This vehicle was the first Coburg electric car by Andreas Flocken (1845-1913), of which a photograph exists that can be dated to the summer of 1889 at the earliest.

The vehicle is likely the world's first four-wheeled electric car.

Using photographs and contemporary reports, a team of experts led by the Coburg experimental platform MakingCulture^® e.V. in cooperation with the Initiative Stadtmuseum e.V. reconstructed the vehicle of the visionary Coburg entrepreneur and inventor.
