Leapmotor C10 REEV (Range Extended Electric Vehicle)
The Leapmotor C10 REEV is a family-friendly D-segment SUV and the flagship model of the ambitious Chinese high-tech brand Leapmotor. The starting price in Germany is €37,600.
Range extended electric vehicles (REEVs) have been booming in China since 2020, with their acceptance accelerating rapidly. And in Europe, the technology that means the end of range anxiety is on the rise as well. Leapmotor is a pioneer of this movement and has developed range-extended EV technology to offer the best of both worlds: genuine electric driving with a practical, efficient solution for extending range.
The Leapmotor C10 REEV is equipped with a 158 kW electric motor and a 1.5-liter combustion engine. The 28.4 kWh battery offers an electric range of 145 km (WLTP), while the combined total range exceeds 970 km. With fuel consumption of just 0.4 l/100 km in combined operation and CO2 emissions of 10 g/km, the C10 REEV significantly reduces emissions and fuel consumption compared to conventional gasoline vehicles, making it an environmentally friendly choice for consumers.
The Leapmotor C10 REEV is primarily electric, with the electric motor always driving the wheels. When the battery charge is low, the combustion engine starts to generate electricity to recharge the battery and increase the range. This system gives the C10 REEV the smooth, quiet, and responsive driving experience of an electric vehicle, while offering the flexibility of a conventional combustion engine for longer journeys.
Leapmotor's innovative REEV technology allows users to choose between three charging modes: external with direct current (DC) or alternating current (AC), and internal with a built-in power generator. This flexibility allows the use of electricity from the grid or, thanks to the 1.5-liter gasoline engine on board, self-generated electricity. The C10 REEV also offers 65 kW DC fast charging, enabling rapid recharging for seamless travel.
Drivers can select their preferred “energy mode” via the main screen, optimizing the vehicle's performance to suit their needs. The available modes include options to prioritize electric driving or increase power as needed.
The C10 REEV supports both AC and DC fast charging, allowing it to achieve a long range in a short time, making it suitable for long journeys. With DC fast charging, the C10 REEV can restore half of its electric range in just 18 minutes. The electric motor delivers 158 kW (215 hp) and ensures a smooth and responsive driving experience.
The Leapmotor C10 REEV sets new standards in terms of value for money, as even the fully equipped version remains below the €40,000 mark – despite its high-tech features.
The C10 uses Leapmotor's LEAP 3.0 architecture with a centrally integrated electronics configuration, the Cell-to-Chassis system, and a smart cockpit.
Among the wide range of advanced technological features, the driver assistance system (ADAS), which consists of 17 driver assistance functions, stands out in particular. These include: automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind spot detection, and adaptive cruise control. This overall system is supported by a centralized electronic and electrical architecture called “Four-Leaf Clover,” a completely self-developed technology that combines a single system-on-chip (SoC) and a single microcontroller unit (MCU) to create a central supercomputer unit. This architecture integrates the cockpit system, the intelligent driving system, the power domain, and the body domain, and uses high computing power, fast communication, and low latency to enable efficient collaboration between the vehicle's key components. The centralized computing power enables efficient synergies between active safety systems, improving the vehicle's response speed and overall reliability.
