SAE International and EIT InnoEnergy officially launched the SAE/InnoEnergy Battery Academy on April 18, 2023, during SAE's WCX Conference, at Huntington Place in Detroit, Mich. The SAE/InnoEnergy Battery Academy includes more than 220 hours of training encompassing the entire battery lifecycle, from raw materials and cell manufacturing to battery packs, applications/integration, and recycling.
“The partnership and product launch comes at a critical time, as the world moves toward the electric future with EVs accounting for over 14% of the world's passenger vehicle sales in 2022, compared to 9% in 2021, the need for reskilling and upskilling of engineers and technicians is growing exponentially,” stated Mike Paras, Business Development Manager from SAE International.
Oana Penu, EBA Academy Director at EIT InnoEnergy, added, “Skills and qualified workforce have emerged as two key enablers of a successful and timely transition to electric vehicles and energy storage. Battery demand is expected to increase up to 300 GWh by 2025, from around 70 GWh in 2022. The SAE/InnoEnergy Battery Academy is the product of several years of collaboration with thought leaders to construct one of the broadest and deepest learning resources in the batteries field. We are delighted to be working with Sustainable Mobility Solutions and SAE International to bring this program to a broad audience of vehicle manufacturers, academic and government institutions, charge providers, suppliers, and others.”
